I Said Yes!!

Even before Joseph and I became a couple, he has been very vocal of his interest of having a relationship with me that is leading to marriage. This along with his kind nature, sweetness, sense of (corny) humor, honesty, values and good looks made me say yes to him. For 26 years, I had been waiting for someone to spend the rest of my life with. I did not get into any relationship before because I wanted my first boyfriend to be my last. And Joseph is making that dream, along with my other dreams, come true.

Although we have been together for only a few months, my Honey has laid out his plans of marrying with me. And just last month, I finally gave my sweet loving yes. This time I said yes because I love Joseph for all that he is and all that he will ever be.

At McDonald’s New Frontier Cinema branch, we were just dining like the usual breaks that we do every single night. It was already normal for me to hear him say of his dreams of marrying me and us having a family of our own. I have heard him so many times saying these wonderful words but I kept on saying no to him. I told him that I will only say yes to him if I am ready to marry him the very next day. And that very night, when he was not expecting it I finally gave my yes. And yeah, there was no ring that night.

Over the next few days, we told our families and friends about the engagement. Everyone is excited for our future and they had their own guesses as to when the big day would be. None won. LOL.

We planned to get our own place. Got an agent and prepared our documents for acquiring a condo. We are on our first steps in becoming a husband and wife.

Still, I didn’t have my engagement ring. Joseph has promised to give me one and he when he does, he will make that moment a special one. He kept his word.

March 29th, Sunday.
I was still upset from the other night and Joseph told me not to leave my house that day. At 1130am he picked me up and told my mother that we will go to church. Secretly, I was hoping that he will finally give the long awaited ring at the Nuestra Senora de Gracia, my most favorite church. But my hopes died down when Joseph decided to hear mass at Santuario de San Antonio instead.

Santuario de San Antonio is located in Forbes Park. This church is special for both of us. This is the very church where we first prayed together as a couple. The very church where he pledged his love for me in front of God. And today, he’s doing it again.

After mass, he asked me to stay with him inside the church. At the same area where we first prayed together, he made the sweetest most memorable proposal ever. I was crying when he told me he loves me very much and he wants to spend the rest of his life with me.

Then, he took a box from his pocket and I saw two rings. What?? Dalawa??! One is with a crowned stone on top while the other ring is with seven small stones. The jewelers have terms for such. I forgot what they are. LOL. My Honey is so unique and funny at the same time.

He said that there are two so that just in case I get tired of wearing one of them, I can wear the other.

He finally gave the most powerful question of all time, “Honey will you marry me?”
With tears in my eyes, I said yes.

In January 2011, in front of God, family and friends we will take our vows. God makes the best love stories. And the story is not yet over.

Star City

At 27 and having lived almost all her life inside the metropolis, I was one of those pathetic persons who have not stepped inside the metro’s theme park, Star City. I have attempted several times to get inside this park but unfortunately, I was either KJ (kill joy) when I was asked out or there were not enough good company to go with. I don’t like taking rides where they will slam you onto air or make your guts leave your body. No, I am no fan of theme parks.

Still, I took my chances and tried it. After all, I have always loved doing things I haven’t tried. So dare me.

Yesterday, my boyfriend and I thought of spending our special day at Star City and be kids again. He picked me up at my house around 5PM and we headed to Roxas Boulevard. Since it was almost sunset, I pleaded him to watch the sun set at Manila Bay. The cab dropped as off at Star City and we walked towards the back of Tanghalang Francisco Balagtas, just beside Gloria Maris Restaurant.

From afar we could see the skyscrapers of Makati and to our back was the Chinese floating restaurant. I think I would want to try one of those restaurants someday. Hmmm.

The bay was not giving off stench that much but we encountered some unseen insects and felt itchy after a few minutes. Well, that didn’t bother me much as long as I see the wonderful work of God making me thank Him more. Still, it’s better to watch the sunset in beaches. Summer, here I come!

We saw some men getting tahong or mussels at that time. I can’t believe they can still get something from that man-wretched body of water.

Once the sun set, we left the area and proceeded to Star City. We preferred to just pay the entrance of Php60 than getting the ride-all-you-can ticket. Like me, my boyfriend is no fan of rides. When we got inside, there were a lot of stores (flea market) in and you could mistake it for Divisoria. LOL. We didn’t check the price of the items but I heard from a friend that their prices range same as those in Greenhills. There were pirated DVDs, pirated Havaianas, jackets, shoes, pillows were just some of the items being sold. I wonder if Edu Manzano is aware of these pirated items being sold here.

We had a hard time looking for the rides coz there were not enough signs. I didn’t even see a map! Good thing we weren’t shy to ask directions. Moreover, there were no posters of what we could explore inside the park. There were no lists of the rides, exhibits and the likes. The management of Star City should do something about this. From the perspective of a first timer like me, I am not happy at all with my experience.

After trying some carnival games, we checked the Snow World. We had to pay Php100 for entrance and had to sign a waiver that we were not sick, pregnant etc before we could enter. And then they let us borrow jackets in blue and red colors. The jackets smell! Sheez… They should have it washed once a week or at least twice a month.

Inside, the place was rather small. We were not allowed to take pictures. It was REALLY COLD. Joseph and I were wearing slippers and shorts so we almost froze inside. Also, it was hard to breathe inside. So, that’s why they don’t allow people with asthma, hypertensive and with flu!

There were ice sculptures and slides where you can slide individually or as a group. My dear boyfriend wouldn’t want to slide because it was too cold for our legs so we just watched the kids play. It was slippery inside as well, so I suggest make sure that you’re not wearing any slippery footwear.

We could feel our legs and feet getting numb after 10 minutes so we left the place right away. Now I know how the pork felt when he was placed inside the freezer. LOL.

You have to knock on the door to get out of the freezer. Kids will enjoy this place because of the slides but before you let your children play here, make sure that they are wearing clothes to make them warm. I suggest you bring gloves and bonnet too.

We ate our dinner at a chicken inasal stall. We just paid Php150 for 3 rice, a half chicken and 2 glasses of iced tea – very affordable! The only problem was there were not enough tables so we had to share tables.

After dining, we decided to try the bump cars. I felt sad when there were no entrance tickets, but you needed to buy the ride-all-you-can ticket to avail of the rides. Oh well, let’s just try other bump cars someday.

We checked the carnival games, like the shooting range, basketball free throwing, fish a duck and ‘slam the bottles, get a prize’. Just like any other carnival games, it was hard to win them. I think it was rather pricey to pay 3 tokens for a game where 1 token would cost at Php13 each. I suggest that parents buy tokens at the onset of their stay so they could manage costs while inside the park.

And then the foot spa. Joseph and I checked this foot spa wherein schools of small fish would eat the dead skin cells on your feet. I saw one like this in Manila Ocean Park so we both tried it. We paid Php50 each for a 20 minute dip.

The trick was not to make any sudden moves. Just raise your feet midway of the pool and let the fish come to you. At first it was ticklish specially when the big ones start to bite you. And then a school of fish would swarm over your foot to taste a piece of you.

It was an experience worth trying! We felt relieved. Too sad I still don’t know what these fish are called. Better check with wikipedia later.

Overall, the theme park was really meant for kids and for those who are addicted to thrilling rides. But for people like me and my boyfriend, we get enjoyment just watching people laugh, bond, and scream. We had a good time just being together and watching other people. This is much better than watching people pass by a coffee shop.
